2018 Movement Disorders Symposium by University of Virginia

2018 Movement Disorders Symposium is organized by University of Virginia (UVA) and will be held on Oct 20, 2018 at Omni Charlottesville Hotel, Charlottesville, Virginia, United States of America.

The target audience for this medical event is Neurologists, neurosurgeons, neuropsychologists, and movement disorders team members including PAs, NPs, nurses, and occupational, speech, and physical therapists. Residents, fellows, and other trainees are welcome to attend. This CME Conference has been approved for a maximum of 6.25 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits.

Course Description:
The symposium will provide the formal didactic review of recent research advances and evidence from clinical trials in movement disorders that are changing practice. Advances in the management of non-motor symptoms have substantial implications for diagnosing and treating patients with Parkinson’s Disease and related disorders of movement and motor control. Case discussions will highlight diagnostic features of movement disorders and practical strategies for treatment.

As a result of participation in this symposium, attendees will be able to:
• Describe the importance of gastrointestinal and genitourinary symptoms in Parkinson’s Disease and appropriately apply available therapies.
• Review advances in procedural treatments such as deep brain stimulation and investigational focused ultrasound for tremor, Parkinson’s Disease, and other movement disorders.
• Discuss disorders of speech and swallowing in Parkinson’s Disease and other movement disorders and their treatment.
• Describe pathophysiologic mechanisms of cognition in Huntington’s Disease and therapeutic advances.
• Incorporate evidence-based strategies in the assessment of cognition in Parkinson’s Disease
