OVERVIEW
1st Annual MedStar Georgetown Transplant Institute Symposium is organized by MedStar Health and will be held on May 19, 2018 at Bethesda Marriott, Bethesda, Maryland, United States of America.
The target audience for this medical event isBariatric Surgery, Cardiology, Critical Care, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Infectious Disease, Internal Medicine, Nephrology, Pathology, Pediatrics, Pulmonology, Radiology, Surgery, Transplant. This CME Conference has been approved for a maximum of 25.0 Interprofessional Continuing Education (IPCE) credits.
Conference Overview :
The educational program will consist of three parallel tracks navigating the diagnosis and treatment options for kidney, pancreas, liver, and intestines requiring a transplant. These tracks include: Advances in Liver Diseases and Transplantation, Current Issues in Kidney and Pancreas Transplantation and Dialysis, and Update on Transplantation for Children. The Liver track will cover topics such as chronic liver diseases, understanding the liver transplant process, and hepatocellular carcinoma. Through the Kidney and Pancreas track, the learner will gain a better understanding of the new kidney allocation system, post-transplant care, managing the wait list, and living donor transplantation. The third track, Update on Transplantation for Children, will examine updates on intrahepatic cholestasis syndromes, pediatric intestinal transplantation, and the transition from pediatric to adult intestinal failure and transplant care. MGTI 2018 offers an educational experience for attendees to interact in an interprofessional learning environment with designated tracks, lectures and panel discussions.
Conference Objectives :
After completing this activity, the participant will be able to;
• Demonstrate improved management of infantile intrahepatic cholestatic liver disease, including role of various surgical interventions, outcomes, and indications for transplantation.
• Demonstrate improved management of chronic pancreatitis in children, particularly as relates to nutrition support.
• Explain long-term outcomes in pediatric intestinal transplantation and the immunological barriers to achieving long-term graft function.
• Identify infectious problems in intestinal failure, extended central vein access, and their management.
• Recognize thrombotic complications of long-term central vein access and their management.
• Utilize methods to achieve optimal multidisciplinary care in ambulatory management of pediatric patients with intestinal failure
• Establish a framework for the eventual transition of care of older patients to adult providers.
• Discuss recent advances in kidney and/or pancreas transplant
• Recognize factors that both limit and enhance access to kidney and/or pancreas transplant
• Identify factors to improve transplant outcomes
• Indicate specific patient subsets who are considered at higher risk for lack of access to transplantation and inferior post-transplant outcomes
• Recognize what constitutes immunologic high risk status and how to overcome such barriers to transplantation
• Define the role of obesity in kidney transplant patients with focus on nutrition
• Review pharmacological options to facilitate access, improve post-transplant outcomes and manage HIV infection in transplant patients
• Distinguish the challenges and options for personalization with regards to specific patient subsets and the pharmacological interventions to overcome those challenges
• Discuss the current screening strategies, staging mechanisms and treatment options for patients with liver diseases and cirrhosis
• Compare the indications and contraindications for liver transplant with the goal of increasing patient access and improving outcomes
• Recognize the importance surveillance for hepatocellular carcinoma in patients at increased risk
• Identify common clinical scenarios and evidence-based management of patients with liver diseases
• Identify the latest treatment recommendations of patients with Hepatitis C and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease
• Discuss the indications for intestinal rehabilitation and transplant
