OVERVIEW

30th Annual Carolina Refresher Course (CRC): Update in Anesthesiology, Pain and Critical Medicine is organized by Wake Area Health Education Center (AHEC), University of North Carolina (UNC) School of Medicine and would be held during Jun 21 - 24, 2017 at Kiawah Island Golf Resort, Kiawah Island, United States of America.

The target audience for this medical event basically for physicians, including but not limited to anesthesiologists, critical care specialists, pain specialists, surgeons, and internists, as well as certified registered nurse anesthetists, anesthesiology resident and fellow physicians, certified anesthesiologist assistants, and allied services practitioners. This CME Conference has been approved with a maximum of 22.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits.

Anesthesiology, Pain, and Critical Care Medicine are medical disciplines uniquely characterized by an exponentially expanding base of peer reviewed literature, evolving technology, and new techniques combined with ever increasing clinical realms of practice in which this novel information is relevant. The Carolina Refresher Course seeks to present a portion of this material in a format that emphasizes utility, practicality, and retention so that the content learned may be easily and effectively applied in the improvement of patient safety, comfort, and satisfaction.

Objectives :

At the conclusion of this knowledge-based activity, participants should be able to :
• Define the purpose and role of medical boards in maintenance of certification and professional development
• Identify proper ultrasound techniques to gain vascular access in challenging patients
• Discuss medications and blood products used to manage postpartum hemorrhage in an effort to reduce mortality
• Examine post-surgical chronic pain in relation to cause and appropriate treatment options
• Describe management strategies for patient with implantable cardiac devices
• Discuss medical and surgical treatment modalities for patients experiencing co-morbidities associated with implantable cardiac devices including congestive heart failure and valvular disease
• Examine latest pediatric anesthesia information in determining best treatment options for upper respiratory infections and those with Down Syndrome who present for electric surgery
