OVERVIEW

The purpose of Practical Pediatrics 2015 is to offer providers current information relevant to the care of infants, children and adolescents in the outpatient setting. Following the presentations, attendees should be better able to:

Explain the status of potential treatment modalities and preventive vaccines for Ebola.
Describe the common factors approach and other strategies for effective co-management with mental health professionals in the care of an adolescent with depression.
Review common health issues among immigrant children.
Discuss the values and shortcomings of fetal echocardiography as a tool for early identification of congenital heart disease.
Review how to clinically evaluate a child with cerebral palsy.
Review the epidemiology, pathogenesis and natural history of infantile hemangiomas.
Describe the types of depression and anxiety that primary care providers should consider treating with medications.
Describe strategies for monitoring social-emotional development, screening, protective factors and resiliency.
Discuss which patients require screening for celiac disease and who should be referred.
Review the principles regarding the accurate diagnosis and workup of a UTI.
Review the spectrum of congenital ear deformities with special focus on less severe deformities.
Discuss nutrition recommendations for the athletic population.
Identify high risk skin lesions and rashes.
Recognize the physical findings that can most often mimic child abuse.
Describe the diagnosis and workup of new onset nephrotic syndrome in children.
