Marian Frances Earls MD, MTS, FAAP

Marian Earls is the Director of Pediatric Programs at CCNC and a practicing pediatrician in Greensboro, North Carolina. She is board-certified in both General Pediatrics and Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics and represents the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) as chair of their Mental Health Leadership Work Group, which is charged with national dissemination of mental health integration in primary care pediatrics.

Since 2000, she has been a director of the NC ABCD (Assuring Better Child Health and Development) Program, which works to integrate developmental services into pediatric practices. She was lead on the state CHIPRA Quality Demonstration Grant and was the Medical Director of Guilford Child Health, a large, non-profit pediatric practice that served families at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level. Dr. Earls also leads the Neonatal Developmental Follow-up Clinic for the Level III NICU for Cone Health System in Greensboro.

Dr. Earls was president of the North Carolina Pediatric Society, and her 2008 white paper on Foster Care and the Medical Home ultimately culminated the Fostering Health NC project (a collaboration among CCNC, NC Pediatric Society, and NC DSS). She is currently on the ADHD Guidelines Committee for the AAP (updated guidelines to be published in 2019) and was one of the authors of the 2010 ADHD Policy Statement. She is the lead author on the AAP’s Policy Statement (2018) on postpartum depression screening at infant well-visits.

Dr. Earls received her A.B. in Biology in 1976 from the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts, her Master of Theological Studies (MTS) in 1978 from Harvard Divinity School, Harvard University, and her M.D. from the University of Massachusetts in 1984.
