Conference Brochure

We cordially invite you to join us at NYSORA’s 12TH Annual Symposium on Regional Anesthesia, Pain and Perioperative Medicine, September 21-22, 2013 in New York City. This is one of the largest symposium in the field, with some 500 delegates attending annually. Our educationally robust parallel session, innovative workshops and associated social programs offer opportunities for long-lasting connections between all who attend. The symposium will feature the NYSORA THINK-TANK (NTT) lecture series for the first time. Each 20 minute lecture is delivered by key opinion leaders in the field and followed by a 10 minute discussion with the audience. The NTT talks will be literature-supported material with a balanced view for the practicing clinician based on in-depth synthesis of the speakers’ own research and literature review. In addition to the NTT Series, NYSORA will offer an Anesthesiology Review Series (ARS), which runs concurrent with the NTT talks. These intense parallel sessions will be delivered by some of the most sought-after national and international speakers.

This year’s program will offer an Educational Sponsorship Outreach Program (ESOP) to allow colleagues from developing countries to attend. To apply, please send a motivation letter and your CV to stacy@nysora.com. A limited number of applicants will be picked from academic institutions within emerging countries on a first-come, first-served basis. Each selected application will receive complimentary registration and unlimited access to all scientific sessions.

The need for a comprehensive review of new developments in anesthesiology and perioperative medicine is obvious. The subspecialty of regional anesthesia and pain medicine in particular has been dramatically transformed over the past several years necessitating constant updates in pharmacology, technique, practice protocols, as well as indications and clinical considerations. The introduction of ultrasound in clinical practice has made the subspecialty more precise and intricate. Nerve blocks facilitate pain management, fast tracking, promotion of early mobilization, decreased hospital stay, and may reduce overall healthcare costs. Attending NYSORA conferences help delegates stay up-to-date in the field by reviewing the new or updated knowledge in regional anesthesia, airway management, and beyond.

NYSORA will offer a multitude of highly versatile and focused workshops. The Saturday morning and late afternoon workshops will focus on basic and intermediate ultrasound-based regional anesthesia techniques designed for colleagues who are novice in the field. Delegates will have the opportunity to scan, become familiar with the ultrasound anatomy and practice on a meat-model to develop knowledge of anatomy, basic ultrasonography and needle maneuvering. In addition to the basic techniques, the basic and intermediate workshops will also focus on expanding range of ultrasound-guided peripheral nerve blocks as well as more interactive discussion with the faculty. There will also be an afternoon workshop for advanced level delegates. The advanced lever workshop will include special sessions designed for the pain clinicians who would like to start utilizing ultrasound-guided pain prevention techniques. Finally, colleagues who are in need of more advanced direction will have the opportunity to attend our advanced nerve block workshop on Sunday. This session is intended for those who already practice ultrasound-guided peripheral nerve blocks and are in need of advanced instruction. Sunday’s workshops will be more in depth compared to previous years. The Saturday basic and intermediate workshops, as well as the Sunday workshop on US-Guided Regional Anesthesia will be preceded by a short review of anatomy upon which the delegates will see practical demonstrations and scanning techniques.

NYSORA will also feature an exceptional humanities program with a wider variety of topics and discussions. Some of last year’s topics included choosing wines, cooking discussions, triathlon preparation, and how to expand your anesthesiology practice. This year, NYSORA will host for the first time, a cruise on the Hudson. And who could forget the infamous Saturday evening social event featuring great music, live performances, dancing, and excitement? These two social events will be truly spectacular; everyone will get together for more knowledge sharing, networking, and unforgettable fun.

The NYSORA symposium has become a staple for state-of-the-art education in regional anesthesia, acute pain management and perioperative medicine. Multiple opportunities will be available for enhanced learning and discussion between experts and the audience. This format allows delegates the opportunity to choose which workshops and sessions best suit their individual needs and interests. The abstract presentations/competition will also be included for enhanced and interactive sharing of new knowledge.

Please be sure to visit the program site frequently for updates. We look forward to seeing you in New York in September 2013 for what promises to be an unforgettable educational event.
