Prof. Dr. medical Xenofon Baraliakos, MD, Ph.D. is a Medical Director at The Rheumatism center in the Ruhr Area. Xenofon Baraliakos obtained his medical qualification from the Free University of Berlin, Germany. After finishing his training and specialization in orthopedic surgery, Dr. Baraliakos is now specializing in internal rheumatology. He is a consultant and the scientific coordinator of the rheumatology center Rheumazentrum Ruhrgebiet’ of the Ruhr-University of Bochum in Germany. A recipient of many awards, Dr. Baraliakos has received the Research Award of the European Workshop on Rheumatology Research (2005), the Research Award of the German Rheumatology Society (2007), the Research Award of the Austrian Rheumatology Society (2007), the EULAR Young Investigator Award in both 2006 and 2008, the German AS patient´s society Award 2010 and the Pfizer Specialty Care Award 2010 and 2011.

His specific research interest centers on ankylosing spondylitis, especially on the description of the disease processes, its natural course, the efficacy and safety of therapeutic interventions, and the imaging of the disease.
