Description:
Pain, a complex phenomenon influenced by a series of genetic, biological, psychological and social factors, is a major component of many systemic rheumatic diseases and the result of physiological interactions between central and peripheral nervous system signalling. The many different aspects of pain mean that rheumatologists and other clinicians need to have enough expertise to diagnose the type of pain correctly and treat it appropriately. 

Even as our understanding regarding the pathogenesis and neuroscience underlying pain in rheumatic diseases rapidly expand and proliferate in recent years, heated controversies remain regarding many aspects of chronic pain, regarding its place in medicine and society and regarding the best ways to alleviate suffering.

Pain-Rheumatic 2019 will aim at both exposing and (hopefully) shedding constructive light on some of these more central controversies, aiming at both honoring diversity of opinion as well as attempting to forge understanding and a basis for collaboration down the road. 
The Congress will welcome researchers, clinicians, pain specialists, treatment experts, pharmaceutical companies and other industry leaders.

The congress will focus on the following key areas:
• The neuro-biological underpinnings of pain 
• Classification, diagnosis, epidemiology and the evolving concept of chronic pain in systemic rheumatic diseases
• Epigenetics in the understanding of chronic pain
• Treating pain in rheumatic diseases, conventionally as well as not
• Combining diverse lines of research in the study of complex CNS – related conditions such as “neuropathic and/or central-nociplastic pain”
• New horizons
