Dr. Wendy Wornham graduated from Stanford University in 1976 with a major in Human Biology and from Harvard Medical School, cum laude, in 1981. She then did her internship in pediatrics at Children's Hospital in Seattle and her pediatric residency at Massachusetts General Hospital. Between 1984 and 1986, Dr. Wornham pursued her interests in medical anthropology, public health and community medicine while living in Paris, France and Katmandu, Nepal. She then worked as a pediatrician in the neighborhood health centers in Cambridge and joined the faculty at Harvard Medical School.
