The Effective Pediatric Pain Management and End of Life Care course is designed for clinicians in the primary or subspecialty care setting who may identify and treat pediatric patients with various painful conditions and provide end of life care. Objectives
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
1. Review the current laws pertaining to prescribing opioids and proper storage and disposal of prescription medicines
2. Evaluate available opioid and non-opioid options to treat pediatric pain
3. Apply current guidelines for the management of pediatric pain
4. Recognize patients at high risk for substance abuse
5. Counsel patients on the side effects of pain management therapy
6. Develop treatment strategies for the treatment of addiction, tolerance and withdrawals
7. Select patients for behavioral medicine pain therapy
8. Incorporate best practices for management of pediatric palliative care
9. Identify ethical challenges in end-of-life care and develop strategies to address them in practice
