Professor Qidwai graduated from Dow Medical College in 1983 and completed initial training at Civil Hospital Karachi. He joined Family Medicine program, at Aga Khan University in 1986 and has been working as Professor and Chairman in Family Medicine Department since 2008. He is Chair, Family Health since September 2015 at Aga Khan University.
Professor Qidwai completed his postgraduate training in Family Medicine at Aga Khan University. He is Fellow and Member of College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP) and International Fellow of Royal College of General Practitioners (UK). He received Membership of Faculty of Public Health, Royal College of Physicians (UK) through distinction.
Professor Qidwai received, “Global Family Doctor of the Month Award” in May 2004, from World body of Family Doctors (WONCA). He received prestigious Burki Gold Medal award, for his outstanding performance in Fellowship Examination of CPSP, in 1997. He received Honorary Fellowship, from College of General Practitioners of Sri Lanka, in recognition of his services for promotion of Family Medicine in general and in South Asia region in particular.
Professor Qidwai served as Dean, Faculty of Family Medicine from 2010-2015 and is currently a Member. He is Trainer for Fellowship in Family Medicine, Chief Invigilator and Examiner and Convener for Membership and Fellowship Examinations in Family Medicine at CPSP. During his Deanship at CPSP, he facilitated and participated in the inspection and approval of two new postgraduate training programs in Family Medicine in the country. He is Invited Examiner for the Arab Board Specialization Examination in Family Medicine, Kuwait Board, Saudi Diploma, and MD Examinations of Sri Lanka, Nepal and Oman in Family Medicine and Royal College of General Practitioners Membership (International) Examination.
Professor Qidwai is Chair, Working Party on Research, World Organization of Family Doctors (WONCA) since 2010 and has served as Chair and Vice-Chair, International Federation of Primary Care Research Network. He has played a very important role in promotion of Primary Care Research globally, including his efforts rendered in establishment of South Asia Primary Care Research Network, East Mediterranean Primary Care Research Network and Pakistan Primary Care Research Network. This has promoted Primary Care Research in these regions. He has worked as World Health Organization Advisor.
