Viraj Kariyawasam is a consultant gastroenterologist and hepatologist. After completing his gastroenterology training at Gosford, Westmead and Concord Hospitals, Dr. Kariyawasam obtained his fellowship of the Royal Australian College of Physicians (FRACP) in 2011. He then completed an endoscopic fellowship at Concord Hospital and embarked on a clinical research fellowship in IBD at the world-renowned IBD center at Guy’s and St Thomas’s Hospitals in the UK. He also obtained a Member of the Royal College of Physicians UK (MRCP) in 2011.

Currently enrolled in a clinical Ph.D., Dr. Kariyawasam is looking at the long-term outcome and impact of thiopurines therapy in the treatment of IBD. He is published widely and is actively involved in teaching novel research. Dr. Kariyawasam is a member of the Gastroenterological Society of Australia, the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, and the European Crohn’s and Colitis Organisation.
