Suthat Liangpunsakul MD, MPH

Dr. Suthat Liangpunsakul is a Professor of Medicine, Biochemistry, and Molecular Biology in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Indiana University. His research focuses on basic, translational, and clinical studies to determine the pathogenesis of alcohol-associated liver disease (ALD). He is the principal investigator of research projects funded by the US Department of Veterans Affairs (Merit Review) as well as the National Institutes of Health (NIH/NIAAA). He has authored or co-authored more than 250 peer-reviewed articles. Currently, he serves as a steering committee member for the AASLD Special Interest Groups on ALD and as an Associate Editor of HEPATOLOGY. Born in Thailand, Dr. Liangpunsakul completed his medical training at Prince of Songkhla University, Thailand, in 1995, where he was awarded an MD degree, first class honors.  He completed his Internal Medicine Residency at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) in 2000 and Gastroenterology/Hepatology training at the Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis in 2003. In addition, he completed a Master of Public Health (MPH) degree from the Indiana University Purdue University in Indianapolis (IUPUI) School of Public Health in 2003.
