Dr Susie Burke is a psychologist at the Australian Psychological Society, looking at ways of using psychological knowledge to enhance community wellbeing and promote social justice. A significant part of her work in the Psychology in the Public Interest team is to examine and promote the role that psychology can play in helping us understand the causes, impacts and solutions to climate change and other environmental threats, including natural disasters. She writes articles, tip sheets and other resources for psychologists, the public and the media on a range of topics including pro-environmental behaviour, coping with climate change, talking with children about the environment, preparing for natural disasters, and psychosocial recovery.
