Susan Orel Roth is Professor of Radiology at the Perelman School of Medicine (University of Pennsylvania). For the past 25 years, her major teaching and clinical responsibilities cover breast imaging for the radiology outpatient department, and mentoring and career advising for breast imaging fellows, radiology residents, and medical students. She has given countless lectures by invitation on mammography and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the breast and has written more than 100 articles on this specialty.
Dr. Roth’s pivotal studies on MRI have led to understanding the value of this technique compared to routine mammography and ultrasound, identifying when MRI will (or will not) serve the patient's best interests. She has had a significant role in defining the special role of MRI in cancer diagnosis and staging. This has been a critical step in establishing the best methods of breast evaluation, to guide women to their best treatment decisions.
