Dr Susan Jones is a Senior Lecturer in Digital Media in the Department of Computing, Engineering and Technology and an academic practitioner in digital media design and evaluation. She is interested in the emotional and cognitive aspects of the aesthetic experience during engagement with digital media products and has a particular interest in applications related to heritage and culture with strong links with the Sunderland Heritage Quarter and Living History North East. She uses her interest in critical photographic studies to inform user experience research with children and teenagers on projects which aim to promote civic sense and identity through the deployment of the photographic archive. Currently her research is focused on the application of theory and techniques from photographic media to understand and incorporate user perspectives in the creation of innovative technology for heritage learning and she is working on a project to enable children to design and develop a virtual heritage trail based upon the ‘Rain’s Eye Plan’, a 17th Century Map of Sunderland.
