Dr. Sumit P. Shah joined NJRetina in 2013. Dr. Shah, a native of New Jersey received his degree in Chemical Biology from the Stevens Institute of Technology where he graduated Valedictorian. He earned his MD degree on a full academic scholarship from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, New Jersey Medical School where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society for exceptional academic performance. Dr. Shah completed his residency in ophthalmology at the UCLA – Jules Stein Eye Institute, which consistently ranks among the top five eye institutes nationwide and his two-year medical and surgical retina fellowship at the Tufts New England Eye Center and the Ophthalmic Consultants of Boston which are one of the leading retina research and clinical trials center in the country, respectively.
Dr. Shah has lectured at national meetings of the American Society of Retina Specialists and has authored numerous scientific articles on a broad array of topics including submacular hemorrhages from age-related macular degeneration, ultrawide-field imaging, endophthalmitis after pars plana vitrectomy, retinal detachment, optical coherence tomography, cystoid macular edema and advances in macular hole surgery. He has served as a peer reviewer for RETINA, the Journal of Retina and Vitreous Diseases and Ophthalmic Surgery Lasers and Imaging.
