Steven Rose MD

Steven H. Rose, M.D., is a professor of anesthesiology at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, with extensive expertise in perioperative medicine, thoracic anesthesia, major spine surgery, orthopedic trauma anesthesia, and quality improvement. Throughout his distinguished career, he has combined exceptional clinical care with transformative leadership in graduate medical education and physician training.

Dr. Rose's clinical interests include anesthesia for thoracic surgery, major spine procedures, orthopedic trauma surgery, and initiatives that enhance patient safety and quality of care. He is widely recognized for his commitment to advancing perioperative practice through education, innovation, and continuous quality improvement.

After earning his Bachelor of Arts degree from Concordia College and his medical degree from Mayo Medical School, Dr. Rose completed residency training in internal medicine and anesthesiology at Mayo Clinic, followed by a fellowship in anesthesiology at the University of Cape Town in South Africa. He is board-certified in Anesthesiology by the American Board of Anesthesiology.

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Rose is an internationally respected medical educator and academic leader. He has served in numerous leadership roles at Mayo Clinic and the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), helping shape graduate medical education and accreditation standards nationwide. A recipient of the ASA–SEA Distinguished Educator in Anesthesiology Award, the Mayo Clinic Distinguished Educator Award, and the ACGME Parker J. Palmer "Courage to Lead" Award, Dr. Rose has made lasting contributions to physician education, mentorship, and the advancement of anesthesiology.
