Stephen received his MD, Ph.D. from the Department of Immunobiology at the Yale University School of Medicine with Dr. Jordan Pober as his mentor. Subsequently, he completed his residency in Radiation Oncology at the University of California, San Francisco where he also joined the laboratory of Dr. Lisa Coussens as a Holman Research Fellow. In the Coussens lab, he studied the role of macrophages in regulating the response to radiation and chemotherapy in breast cancer. Now, as the Principal Investigator of the Shiao Lab, he leads our team in exploring the role of the immune system in regulating the response to cancer therapies. He is an Assistant Professor of Radiation Oncology and Biomedical Sciences at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center where he also serves as the Director of Basic Science for the Department of Radiation Oncology.
