Stephen B. Solomon, who joined the faculty in 2005, has been named Chief of the Interventional Radiology Service in the Department of Radiology. As an interventional radiologist, Dr. Solomon specializes in minimally invasive treatments carried out using image guidance, including x-ray, CT, ultrasound, and MRI. He has a particular expertise in thermal ablation — a technique that uses imaging to guide a needle to a target tumor and then destroy it through the application of heat (radiofrequency ablation) or extreme cold (cryoablation). He has invented a number of technologies that make surgery easier and has expertise in robotics and other image-guided therapies.
