Dr. Schuman is a fellowship trained ophthalmologist specializing in retinal diseases of the macula, retina, and vitreous. Her areas of expertise include the diagnosis and management of diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration, vein occlusions of the eye, and diseases of the peripheral retina and integrative medicine approaches to eye disease. She is experienced in all forms of laser retinal surgery and intravitreal injections. Schuman is involved in a variety of research activities, including clinical trials for macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy, as well as new methods to image the retina. She is involved in teaching residents and fellows and will be integrally involved with the Duke Center for Macular Degeneration and the Duke OCT Reading Center.
