Dr. Stavropoula Tjoumakaris is a Professor of Neurosurgery and the first female dual-trained cerebrovascular neurosurgeon in the country. She is the Director of the nationally renowned Cerebrovascular and Endovascular Joint Fellowship and of the Neurosurgery Clerkship at the Sidney Kimmel Medical School. She is a two-time recipient of the Dean’s Award for Academic Excellence in Education. She treats conditions of the circulatory system of the brain and spine with conventional microsurgery, minimally invasive endovascular techniques, and stereotactic radiosurgery, and also subspecializes in performing intra-arterial chemotherapy treatment for infants with retinoblastoma.
Dr. Tjoumakaris has published over 400 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters and participates in major national research trials. She has been invited to lecture at both national and international levels, and serves leadership roles in national cerebrovascular and endovascular societies. She offers the highest quality of care based on the latest technologies and evidence-based medicine, and sees patients with acute ischemic stroke, carotid artery stenosis, cerebral hemorrhage, aneurysms, and arteriovenous malformations.
