Prof. Rogers qualified from Sheffield University Dental School in 1984. He became a Fellow Of the Dental Faculty Of the Royal College Of Surgeons England in 1988 and qualified with honours from Birmingham University Medical School in 1990. In 1994 he passed his general surgical fellowship from the Royal College of Surgeons England and in 1997 won the gold medal in the Intercollegiate Oral and Maxillofacial examination. In January 1999 Simon was appointed Consultant Maxillofacial Surgeon at the Aintree University Hospital. He is part of the multidisciplinary head and neck team and specialises in Oral and oropharyngeal cancer and microvascular free tissue reconstruction.
In November 2006, he joined Edge Hill University, Faculty of Health as a founder member of the EPRC and was awarded a professorship in 2007. He has an interest in health-related quality of life following oral cancer and in 2000 was awarded a higher degree (MI)) from the University of Birmingham. In 2002, he was awarded a Hunterian Professorship from the Royal College Of Surgeons Of England for his research into the relationship between function and quality of life following primary surgery for oral and oropharyngeal cancer. Simon has several ongoing health-related quality of life studies and has been invited to speak at many national and international scientific meetings. He has organized eleven International Head and Neck Quality of Life conferences hosted at Liverpool.
Rogers has developed, with contributions from colleagues, a web-based resource cataloguing all the articles published on quality of life, head and neck cancer using questionnaires since 1992, In 2006, he was awarded the prestigious BAOMS Surgery prize in recognition of the contribution he has made to the speciality. He is the chief investigator in the Patient Concerns Inventory trial and a world expert in patient-reported outcomes, with in excess of 340 peer-review publications. Between 2005 and 2015 he held senior clinic managerial roles in overseeing the Breast, Dermatology, ENT and Maxillofacial directorates. He is the current Chair of the Steering Group for the NHS England Metric Image.
