Silva A. Arslanian, MD, is Chief, Weight Management and Wellness Center; Director, Pediatric Clinical and Translational Research Center; UPMC Richard L. Day Endowed Chair in Pediatrics; and Professor of Pediatrics, University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. She attended medical school at the American University of Beirut School of Medicine, Beirut, Lebanon; did her residency at the American University Hospital of Beirut, Beirut, Lebanon; and fellowship at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC, Pittsburgh, PA.

Dr. Arslanian’s research focus is the investigation of the pathophysiology of insulin resistance during childhood growth and development, the metabolic syndrome, racial differences in insulin sensitivity and secretion, obesity and Type 2 diabetes in childhood. She has been an invited lecturer, symposium speaker, and chairperson at various international congresses and symposia in addition to being the recipient of several awards.

Dr. Arslanian is affiliated with many societies, including American Diabetes Association, American Pediatric Society, Lawson Wilkins Pediatric Endocrine Society, Midwest Society for Pediatric Research, Pittsburgh Pediatric Society, Eastern Society for Pediatric Research, International Diabetes Federation, The International Study Group on Diabetes in Children and Adolescents, Society for Pediatric Research, The Endocrine Society and the American Association of Diabetes Educators.
