Shavannor M. Smith PhD, MS

Shavannor M. Smith is an Associate Professor of Molecular Genetics of Host Plant Resistance in the Department of Plant Pathology at the University of Georgia College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences. whose research interests and current work are channeled towards plant-pathogen interactions with a focus on the structure and evolution of disease resistance loci, understanding the biological processes for disease resistance, and the Genetic improvement of crop plants for disease resistance. She received her B.S. in Biology from Tennessee State University in 1994 and an M.S. in Biology from Tennessee State University in 1997. She further earned her Ph.D. in Genetics from Kansas State University in 2004.
