Dr. Sharon Gatewood, PharmD, BCACP, FAPhA, is a professor at the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Pharmacy and a leader in community-based pharmacy practice. Her work focuses on advancing patient-centered care through community pharmacy services, including immunizations, travel health, and over-the-counter medication management.

Dr. Gatewood has extensive experience integrating pharmacy services into community and primary care settings. She has served as a clinical pharmacist in community practice and as a preceptor and residency coordinator, mentoring pharmacy students and residents in areas such as medication therapy management, diabetes care, and preventive health services.

An advocate for pharmacy practice advancement, Dr. Gatewood has held leadership roles in professional organizations, including serving as president of the Virginia Pharmacists Association. She has also contributed to national pharmacy initiatives, editorial boards, and policy discussions aimed at expanding pharmacists’ roles in healthcare delivery.

Dr. Gatewood earned her Doctor of Pharmacy from Virginia Commonwealth University, where she has been a faculty member since 2006. She is recognized as a Fellow of the American Pharmacists Association (FAPhA) for her significant contributions to the profession and excellence in pharmacy practice and education.
