Shanu Nikhil Kothari MD, FACS, FASMBS

Shanu N. Kothari, M.D., F.A.C.S., F.A.S.M.B.S. is the Vice-Chair of Medical Staff Affairs for Prisma Health-Upstate, Department of Surgery. A minimally invasive bariatric surgeon, Dr. Kothari moved from Gundersen Health System in La Crosse, Wisconsin where he established the bariatric surgery program and started the minimally invasive bariatric surgery and advanced GI fellowship.

He is the president-elect of the Southwestern Surgical Congress, and the president-elect of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. He is also the Secretary-Treasurer of the Fellowship Council. Dr. Kothari received his medical degree at the University of Illinois College of Medicine, Peoria and then went on to complete his general surgery residency at Gundersen Health System. He completed his fellowship training in minimally invasive surgery at Virginia Commonwealth University.
