Dr. Shant Vartanian is a vascular surgeon who cares for patients with aneurysms, carotid artery disease, peripheral artery disease, and other vascular conditions.

In his research, Vartanian studies endovascular treatments for peripheral artery disease (less invasive procedures for narrowed arteries that have reduced blood flow to the limbs). His goal is to help both doctors and patients make informed decisions about treatment options.

Dr. Vartanian earned his medical degree at Saint Louis University. He completed a general surgery residency at UCSF and spent two years in the Laboratory for Accelerated Vascular Research, focusing on the important role of notch signaling (neighboring cells sending signals that impact how tissues develop) in the functional form that embryonic blood vessels ultimately take. He also completed a fellowship in vascular and endovascular surgery at UCSF.
