OVERVIEW

in 2015, vascular surgeons will be confronted with more treatment choices than ever before in practically all vascular territories that we treat. innovative new technologies and techniques, new device/drug combinations, and even new designs of old technology herald in the next era of vascular science. But we also know that all that glitters is not gold. How do these new technologies compare to one another and how do they stack up against surgical outcomes? Are they complementary or competitive? Science is scarce and opinion is rife yet we must winnow what is true and significant and in the best interest of our patients.

This year, we have organized our course to leverage the collective wisdom of the UCSF faculty, guest speakers and audience guests to authentically discuss rational, treatment approaches to vascular problems seen each day in your practices. if you are a returning guest, you will notice a new look to our course this year, right down to the seating set up of the room. This has all been designed to increase interaction and participation by everyone to enrich the discussion. Each session has debates and interactive case presentations strategically placed and selected to highlight knowledge gaps in everyday clinical scenarios. didactic lectures and practical “how-i-do it” talks will round out each session.

This year we wish to welcome collaboration with the California Podiatric Medical Association (CPMA) to jointly present a UCSF/CPMA limb preservation and diabetic foot care course to be held during our final three sessions. Finally we are fortunate once again to have our Society of Vascular Surgery President, dr. Peter lawrence, to present the Binkley lecture.
