Dr. Shailender Bhatia, MD, is a leading medical oncologist and Professor in the Clinical Research Division at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center. He also serves as a Professor of Hematology and Oncology at the University of Washington School of Medicine and is the Director of the Melanoma and Renal Cancer Team at Fred Hutch. Dr. Bhatia holds the Lyn and Daniel Lerner Endowed Chair for Merkel Cell Carcinoma, reflecting his significant contributions to advancing research and treatment for this rare and aggressive skin cancer.

He earned his medical degree from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, followed by residency training in internal medicine at the University of Connecticut Health Center and a fellowship in hematology and oncology at the University of Washington/Fred Hutch. He is board-certified in internal medicine, hematology, and medical oncology. Clinically, Dr. Bhatia specializes in the treatment of skin cancers and kidney cancers, including melanoma and Merkel cell carcinoma. His work focuses on patients with advanced cancers requiring systemic therapies and innovative treatment strategies.
