Seyed Babak Kalantar MD

Dr. Seyed Babak Kalantar is an Associate Professor in the Georgetown Department of Orthopedics and Chief of the Division of Spinal Surgery. He is co-director of the Medstar Spine Center.

Dr. Kalantar tends to patients suffering from a variety of spinal conditions, which he treats successfully. These include spinal stenosis, disc herniation, spinal tumors, scoliosis and spine deformities, neck and back pain, and more. He uses a number of surgical techniques, namely minimally invasive spinal surgery, microscopic spinal surgery, motion-sparing spinal surgery (cervical disc replacement and laminoplasty), complex spinal reconstruction, and cervical, thoracic, lumbar spinal surgery. He is proud to offer services in English, Spanish, and Persian. Among his many accomplishments, he mentions being featured in MedStar NRH Today in the winter of 2014, where he presented a story on his spinal treatments and different options available to patients.

r. Kalantar performs surgery at MedStar Georgetown Hospital and is also the Chief of the Division of Spine Surgery in the Department of Orthopaedics. He says that he became a spine surgeon in order to help “patients affected by debilitating pain or lack of function to return to the highest quality of living possible.” He does more than simply perform surgery. Dr. Bobby Kalantar guides patients prior to surgery and offers them as much time and information as patients need to make decisions about the best treatment.
