Dr. Sengul Ozdek is a Professor of Ophthalmology at the Gazi University, School of Medicine. He completed medical education at Hacettepe University Medical Faculty in 1987 and graduated with the seventh degree of that term in 1994. She works in Gazi University Medical Faculty (GUMF) Ophthalmology Department, Retina Division as an instructor between September 1999 and April 2003 and as an Assistant Professor between 2003-2005.

Her primary interest is in retinal diseases and vitreoretinal surgery. She studied in the Retina division of Miami University Bascom Palmer Eye Institute as an observer under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Harry Flynn for 3 months in 2004 summer. She passed the examination to become an Associate Professor in November 2005. She was appointed to a professorship and she is one of the retinal consultants in the GUMF Ophthalmology Department retina clinic as a Professor since then. 

She has more than 100 articles published in international journals and 100 articles published in national journals. These studies have been cited more than 650 times by several papers in SCI. She presented more than 90 papers in international, >170 papers in national meetings. She has been invited as a speaker to more than 60 international, and 80 national meetings. She has been one of the surgeons in many live surgery courses or symposiums. She has written chapters of some national and international (6) book chapters.

She is a member of the Turkish Ophthalmological Society (TOS), European Retina Society, European Vitreoretinal Society (EVRS), American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Retina Surgeons, and an active member of TOS Retina and Vitreoretinal Surgery sub societies. She has been also elected as secretary of the EVRS Board and member of the Turkish Vitreoretinal Surgery sub-society board.
