Russell S. Taichman BS, DMD, DMSc

Dr. Russell Taichman, the Major Ash Collegiate Professor in the Department of Periodontics and Oral Medicine at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry, became the School’s new Associate Dean for Research effective September 1 following approval of U-M Regents. Taichman earned a DMD from the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine in 1986 and a DMSc from the Harvard School of Dental Medicine four years later. He joined the School as an assistant professor in 1992 and became professor in 2005. In the summer of 2003, he was asked to develop a new program at the School of Dentistry that would focus on leadership. That program, the Scholars Program in Dental Leadership, brings together a group of exceptional students with various interests and experiences to help them develop a leadership mindset and the skills they can use to initiate change in dentistry, dental hygiene, education, research or academia.
