Russell L. Holman MD, MHM

Russell L. Holman, MD, MHM, is the Chief Medical Officer for LifePoint Hospitals, a system of 60 hospitals in 20 states serving non-urban communities. Formerly, Dr. Holman served for 8 years in executive roles with Cogent Healthcare and for 10 years in leadership positions for HealthPartners, an integrated health system based in Minneapolis/St. Paul. During his career, Dr. Holman founded one of the earliest hospitalist programs, created one of the nation's first postgraduate fellowship programs in hospital medicine, served as an internal medicine residency program director, and has co-authored and co-edited the reference textbook Comprehensive Hospital Medicine. Dr. Holman graduated from Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, and completed his residency and chief residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Minnesota. His pioneering work in hospital medicine has rendered nationally recognized standards in the areas of quality improvement, care model innovations, medical education, and physician leadership.
