Dr. Toms serves as the Medical Director of a large, family centered single room Regional Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. His administrative interests are optimizing patient care through focused rounding, clear presentation of pertinent medical data and safety through clear communication. Patient focused care enhanced through performance tracking, safety, quality improvement and meaningful use of EMR and data review. Freeing up clinical personnel to engage in direct patient and family care.
Dr. Toms coordinates the resuscitation effort of patients with prenatally diagnosed highly complex congenital heart disease requiring ECMO, immediate postnatal surgical or heart catheterization intervention. Additional areas of clinical interest are respiratory management of premature infants, BPD prevention and the management of extreme prematurity. Dr. Toms is a member of the Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Society, Alpha Omega Alpha, American Medical Association and the American Academy of Pediatrics.
