Rüdiger Helmann is a professor of medicine, founder and chairman of the European LeukemiaNet (ELN), and founder and chairman of the European Leukemia Research Network Foundation. Professor Hellmann coordinates the activities of the German Acute and Chronic Leukemia Competence Network and the European Leukemia Research Network.

The ELN Foundation is a charitable, non-profit organization that was created to support ELN and aims to improve the quality of care for leukemia patients in Europe and around the world. The ELN Foundation provides access to a collaborative group of researchers, industry, policymakers, patient organizations and clinicians to better understand the origin and course of leukemia, and to catalyze clinical development of new strategies and drugs.

Prof. Hellmann was formerly Head of the Department of Medicine in Mannheim, President of the German Society of Hematology and Oncology, Dean of the Faculty and General Secretary of the International Association for Comparative Research of Leukemia and Related Diseases (IACRLRD).

Rüdiger Hellman is an honorary member of the Polish and German Hematological Societies and an honorary doctor of the Uppsala University in Sweden. His research interests are leukemias, especially chronic myeloid leukemia, and the mechanisms of leukemia and progression to a blast crisis. He has received numerous awards for research in leukemia and interdisciplinary collaboration.
