Dr. Walls is the Chief Operating Officer at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Professor of Medicine in the Division of Emergency Medicine at Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts. Dr. Walls attended medical school at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada and received his residency training in Emergency Medicine at Denver General Hospital. He held faculty positions at George Washington University Medical Center in Washington, DC, Vancouver General Hospital and the University of British Columbia prior to assuming his present position in 1993.

Dr. Walls is a noted educator in emergency medicine and was honored with the American College of Emergency Physicians Outstanding Contributions to Education Award in 2007, the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine’s Hal Jayne Academic Excellence Award in 2008 and the American Academy of Emergency Medicine’s David K. Wagner Award in 2009. He is Senior Editor of Rosen’s Emergency Medicine: Concepts and Clinical Practice, Editor-in-Chief of UpToDate for Emergency Medicine; and Editor-in-Chief of Journal Watch for Emergency Medicine. He is a peer reviewer for all of the major emergency medicine journals, Anesthesia, JAMA, and the New England Journal of Medicine.

Dr. Walls is the principle investigator of NEAR - the National Emergency Airway Registry, a multi-center, international, emergency airway research project, and has over 130 scientific publications, and has written or edited 5 textbooks. He has been an invited Visiting Professor at over 30 institutions.
