Dr. Zura, a native of Baltimore Maryland attended Gilman High School and then the University of Virginia. He returned to Baltimore to study medicine at John Hopkins University of Medicine and then returned to the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, VA for his orthopaedic residency training.

He studied under Drs. Kellam, Sims and Bosses at the Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, NC for his orthopaedic trauma fellowship. Before going to Duke, Dr. Zura spent 2 years on faculty at the Medical College of Georgia and a year in private practice in Fredericksburg, VA. He spent 12 years at Duke and was the Director of Orthopaedic Trauma and Director of the Orthopaedic Trauma Fellowship Program. He has over 80 peer-reviewed publications. His interest include fracture care, intramedullary nailing, powdered gloves, nonunions and osteomyelitis.

He is a graduate of the University of Virginia and Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. Dr. Zura completed his surgery internship and residency at the University of Virginia and his orthopaedic trauma fellowship at the Carolinas Medical Center.
