Richard H. Weisler MD

Dr. Richard H. Weisler has been in practice since 1980 in Raleigh, North Carolina, where his group follows more than 2,000 patients with a mixture of psychiatric disorders. He is board-certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. He is an adjunct professor of psychiatry at the University of North Carolina (UNC) Chapel Hill School of Medicine, where he also served for many years as chairman of the Board of Visitors for the Department of Psychiatry. Dr. Weisler is also an adjunct associate professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina.

Dr. Weisler has been the principal investigator in over 200 clinical trials.  Dr. Weisler has authored or co-authored more than 60 journal articles and book chapters on bipolar disorder, attention deficit disorder, depression, PTSD, social phobia, dementia, pharmaco-economics, suicide, and generalized anxiety disorders.  In addition, he has been very actively involved as an investigator and /or consultant in the development of many of the currently approved and investigational treatments for bipolar disorder, major depression, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, social phobia, posttraumatic stress disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, dementia, sleep disorders and migraines.

He has also conducted research in the areas of neuro-imaging and the genetics of psychiatric disorders. He has served as a peer reviewer for many scientific journals including Journal of the American Medical Association, Biological Psychiatry, Journal of Affective Disorders, and the Journal of Clinical Psychiatry among others, as well as for the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR)/Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
