Richard G. Schuster, DO, Chair of Primary Care in the Marian University College of Osteopathic Medicine, was elected to the Board of Trustees of the American Academy of Osteopathy (AAO) on March 12 during the AAO’s Convocation in Louisville, Kentucky. He will serve a three-year term as a trustee of the AAO, which is the largest osteopathic medical association headquartered in Indiana.

In addition to being elected a trustee during the AAO’s Convocation, Dr Schuster chaired the Convocation’s five-day didactic program, which attracted more than 550 osteopathic physicians and other health care professionals from around the world and some 650 osteopathic medical students.

Dr. Schuster has served on the AAO’s other governing board—the Board of Governors—since 2012. He also chairs the AAO Education Committee. Dr. Schuster is the chair of primary care medicine at the Marian University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Indianapolis, and he is the director of osteopathic medical education for Community Health Network in Indianapolis.

While attending what is now the Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine in Athens, Dr. Schuster served a one-year undergraduate fellowship to obtain additional training in osteopathic principles and practice. After earning his doctor of osteopathic medicine degree in 1994, he served a residency in family medicine at Firelands Regional Medical Center in Sandusky, Ohio, and a postdoctoral fellowship in sports medicine at Toledo Hospital in Ohio.
