Richard Ceska was born in Prague, 29. 4. 1957. After graduation at Faculty of Medicine, Charles University, Prague in 1982 he started his medical career at the University General Hospital in Prague and for one year also in army hospital in Prague. He is specialized in internal medicine, he received the first and second degree in internal medicine in 1985 and 1989. In 1992 he received CSc. (Czech equivalent of PhD). In years 1989-1990 he worked as a Fullbright Scholar and visiting scientist at The Gladstone Foundation Laboratories for Cardiovascular Disease, San Francisco. He was involved in recently discovered familial defective apoB-100 research. After return to the Czech Republic he worked as senior lecturer and associated professor. In 2006 he was named a professor of internal medicine at the Faculty of Medicine, Charles University in Prague. Professor Ceska´s current position is: Head of the Center of Preventive Cardiology, Vice-director of department of Internal Medicine – Endocrinology and Metabolism. He holds the position of the President of the Czech Society of Internal Medicine, and as a founder of the Czech Society for Atherosclerosis he is a honorary president of this society. Prof. Ceska is a Secretary of the International Atherosclerosis Society (IAS) and he is a Member of Administrative Council of European Federation of Internal Medicine (EFIM). He established a ScreenPro FH Project in 2014. The ScreenPro FH project is an international project for improvement of the screening, diagnosis and treatment of familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) in Central, Eastern and Southern Europe (CESE). The project has 20 actively involved countries from the CESE region. His main scientific interests are: Internal medicine, Preventive cardiology, Clinical lipidology and Metabolism. Prof. Ceska is the first author of 9 monographs and has over 200 scientific publications. He regularly participates as a speaker at scientific congresses and conferences (over 300 presentations/lectures as the first author), in addition he was a president of the EAS Congress 2005,Prague (3 000 participants), president of the European Congress of Internal Medicine (EFIM) 2013, Prague (1500 participants), president of the Prague European Days of Internal Medicine (PEDIM) 2014, Prague and president of the 2nd Prague European Days of Internal Medicine (PEDIM) 2016, Prague. He is also a president of the 3rd Prague European Days of Internal Medicine (PEDIM) 2018 If he has some free time, he is interested in sport (tennis, downhill skiing) and music. He is married, he has one daughter.
