Raoul Orvieto MD

Prof. Raoul Orvieto, MD, serves as Director of the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at Sheba Medical Center and is Co-Editor-in-Chief of Reproductive Biology and Endocrinology. A graduate of The Hebrew University, Hadassah Medical School in Jerusalem, where he earned both his B. Med. Sc. and MD degrees, Prof. Orvieto went on to complete advanced training in obstetrics and gynecology at Tel Aviv University’s School of Medicine, graduating cum laude in both diploma and master’s studies. Over the course of his career, he has pursued further specialization in microsurgery, clinical trial management, and reproductive science, with training at leading institutions such as Cornell University’s Center for Male Reproductive Medicine.

An internationally recognized expert, Prof. Orvieto’s research focuses on controlled ovarian hyperstimulation (COH) for IVF, the role of GnRH analogues, and the mechanisms of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS), as well as innovations in pre-implantation genetic testing (PGT) and embryo transfer. His work also explores the impact of obesity on IVF outcomes and fragile X-associated premature ovarian insufficiency. As a professor of obstetrics and gynecology at Tel Aviv University and holder of the Tarnesby-Tarnowski Chair for Family Planning and Fertility Regulation, he combines academic leadership with extensive research contributions, having authored or co-authored more than 250 articles in leading national and international journals.
