Raj Kasthuri is Associate Professor in the Division of Hematology and Oncology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Dr. Kasthuri earned his medical degree from the Kasturba Medical College in India. He completed his residency training in Internal Medicine at the Michael Reese Hospital and Medical Center in Chicago before pursuing a fellowship in Hematology and Medical Oncology at the University of Minnesota. Upon completion of his fellowship training, he joined the faculty at the University of Minnesota for 2 years before moving to his current position at UNC-Chapel Hill.

Dr. Kasthuri’s clinical interests are in disorders of Hemostasis and Thrombosis, and Hereditary Hemorrhagic Telangiectasia (HHT). He is a member of the UNC Harold Roberts Hemophilia and Thrombosis Center and is Director of the UNC HHT Center of Excellence. The primary focus of Dr. Kasthuri’s laboratory research is the mechanism of thrombosis in pathological states like Heparin-Induced Thrombocytopenia (HIT) and cancer, and the biology and mechanisms underlying qualitative platelet function defects.
