Rachel L. Moore MD, FACS, ABOM

Rachel L. Moore, MD, FACS, FASMBS is widely recognized as a leader in the field of metabolic medicine and surgery, as well as a tireless advocate for patients with the chronic disease of obesity. As the founding president of the Louisiana chapter of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery and the ASMBS State Chapter Committee Chair, she is a dedicated to promoting medical advancement and access to care for the treatment of obesity.
Dr. Moore has been elected by her peers as a member of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Executive Council, an exclusive group of outstanding bariatric surgeons in the US. She also participates in several ASMBS committees and often speaks at scientific meetings across the country and internationally. Additionally, Dr. Moore holds the position of Secretary of the Louisiana chapter of the American College of Surgeons.
Dr. Moore is a board-certified bariatric surgeon with extensive experience in minimally invasive laparoscopic surgical technique and non-surgical weight loss procedures. She is especially skilled in bariatric endoscopy, including gastric balloon and endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty (ESG). Dr. Moore serves as an instructor for the Orbera gastric balloon and since 2015 she has been training other doctors nationwide on best practices for performing the Orbera balloon procedure. She is also active in research and clinical trials for emerging treatments and procedures.
Dr. Moore is proud to be part of the greater New Orleans community. As the child of an Air Force General, she moved often in her youth. Dr. Moore attended the University of Alabama as a Presidential Scholar and graduated from the University of Alabama School of Medicine in Birmingham. She went on to complete her general surgery residency at Louisiana State University and she met her husband Michael, who is also a bariatric surgeon, at LSU.
