Peter Arvan, M.D., Ph.D. is Chief of the Division of Metabolism, Endocrinology & Diabetes (MEND), and is a Professor of Medicine and Physiology. Dr. Arvan received his bachelor's degree from Cornell University and his medical and Ph.D. degrees from Yale University. Following residency training in internal medicine, Dr. Arvan completed fellowship training in endocrinology at Yale. Dr. Arvan then joined the faculty at Harvard Medical School in 1988. He moved to the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York in 1996 and became Division Chief at University of Michigan in 2003.

Dr. Arvan leads the MEND division and his laboratory is located within the Brehm Center for Diabetes Research, alongside a group of highly accomplished basic and clinical investigators focused on finding new therapies that better treat diabetes and other endocrine diseases. His laboratory is funded by public research support (from the National Institutes of Health) as well as private research support. Dr. Arvan's area of greatest clinical expertise is in the management of thyroid disease, especially causes and treatments of hypo- and hyper-thyroidism and their associated disorders. He formerly served as Editorial Board member of the journal Thyroid and The Journal of Biological Chemistry.
