Peter J. Stern, MD joined UC Health / University of Cincinnati College of Medicine in September 1992 and is currently the Norman S. & Elizabeth C.A. Hill Professor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine, Division of Hand Surgery. Dr. Stern is a graduate of Williams College (Bachelor of Arts – Chemistry, with honors), Williamstown, Massachusetts, and Washington University School of Medicine (Medical Degree), St. Louis, Missouri. From there he completed his orthopedic surgery residency training at Harvard in Boston, Massachusetts, and hand surgery fellowship training with Harold E. Kleinert, MD in Louisville, Kentucky.

His clinical interest focuses on hand, wrist, and elbow surgery and reconstruction. Research interests include clinical and anatomic studies related to disorders of the hand, wrist, and elbow. He is a member of numerous societies including but not limited to American Medical Association (AMA), American Orthopaedic Association (AOA – President-elect, 2005), American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery (ABOS – President, 2003), American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), American Society for Surgery of the Hand (ASSH).
