Subsequently, he attended the Ohio State University College of Medicine, where he received his MD. Thereafter, he returned to the University of Michigan for his pediatric residency. Finally, Dr. Aziz completed training in pediatric cardiology, followed by pediatric electrophysiology at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. During his fellowship training, Dr. Aziz received a National Institutes of Health research grant studying long QT syndrome. After completing his fellowship training in 2011, he joined the program at the Cleveland Clinic and has been an active clinician, researcher, and educator there since. He started and serves as the director of the Inherited Arrhythmia Clinic.
Dr. Aziz has held the Sir Magdi Yacoub Endowed Chair since 2017. This chair is dedicated to the international training of students, residents, and fellows seeking expertise in managing pediatric patients with arrhythmia disorders, as well as research dedicated to advancing science in preventing sudden death and preserving quality of life in patients with congenital arrhythmia disorders. Dr. Aziz has used this fund to establish and strengthen international pediatric electrophysiology programs. These endeavors serve as his true passion outside of the direct management of patients.
Dr. Aziz serves as the President of the Pediatric and Adult Congenital Electrophysiology Society (PACES, 2025-2026). PACES is the largest international organization of pediatric electrophysiologists, with more than 300 practitioners dedicated to the care of pediatric and adult congenital patients with arrhythmia disorders. Dr. Aziz serves as chair and vice-chair of various organizations, including the Sudden Arrhythmia Death Society (SADS) and Heart Rhythm Society (HRS). He also serves as the medical director for the 4Alec Foundation and Project Adam. Focusing on community service and education, Dr. Aziz has leveraged these platforms to increase awareness of pediatric heart rhythm disorders. He has participated in legislative efforts that aim to prevent sudden cardiac death, including Lindsey's Law and several initiatives through the Ohio legislative system.
