Peter Cistulli is a Professor of Respiratory Medicine and Head of the Discipline of Sleep Medicine at the University of Sydney and Royal North Shore Hospital. His research programme is in collaboration with the Sleep & Circadian Group of the Woolcock Institute of Medical Research. He is a consultant respiratory and sleep physician with almost 20 years of experience in research on sleep-disordered breathing, After completing of doctoral research at the University of Sydney & Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, he established the Sleep Disorders Centre at St George Hospital, Sydney in 1994. 

In addition to directing a reputable clinical service, he has established an independent research programme that has achieved national and international acknowledgement for its themed work on orofacial aspects of Obstructive Sleep Apnoea pathophysiology and therapy. This work has been largely funded by NHMRC. He has built strong interdisciplinary collaborations, locally, nationally, and internationally. Dr Cistulli has a strong standing in the sleep field at research, organisational, and educational levels, serving as the executive of the Australasian Sleep Association (former President), World Federation of Sleep Research and Sleep Medicine Societies.
