Paul S. Garcia MD, PhD

Dr. García is the Grand Rounds Coordinator, Faculty Liaison for the Crawford W. Long Society (Medical Student Interest Group), and serves on the Education Committee. He is Vice-Chair of the American Society of Anesthesiologists Experimental Neurosciences Committee. He has lectured nationally and internationally on intraoperative monitoring, sleep disorders, delirium, and consciousness. He has written book chapters and clinical reviews on difficult airway management, intravenous anesthetics, Alzheimer's disease, awareness under anesthesia, and pain. His clinical research focuses on using EEG techniques to guide patients towards preferred recovery trajectories after general anesthesia.

Dr. García is a practicing physician and manages several laboratories and clinical research projects. He has received numerous national awards for his research including a Career Development Award from the Department of Veteran's Affairs. He heads a multinational research team that investigates cognitive recovery from general anesthesia. He is an Associate Editor for Translational Perioperative and Pain Medicine a reviewer for several clinical and research journals. Dr. García is recognized as a national leader in neuromonitoring, peri-operative stroke, and emergence from general anesthesia.
