Mr Partington specialises in hip and knee surgery, hip and knee joint replacement and revision, hip arthroscopy and knee arthroscopy. He was one of the first surgeons in the region to perform hip arthroscopy surgery and is the trust’s lead for arthroplasty. In addition he also has a specialist interest in arthroscopic hip impingement surgery and has an interest in improving quality and is the trust’s lead for audit and governance.
Mr Partington has been a consultant orthopaedic surgeon at the trust since 1998 following registrar training in the Northern Deanery and advanced training during a one year fellowship in lower limb arthroplasty in Ontario, Canada. A highly experienced surgeon, Mr Partington performs around 200 primary hip and knee replacements, 40 revision joint replacements and 40 hip arthroscopies a year. Joint replacements are performed using the very successful fast track procedure which leads to quicker recovery times for patients.
Mr Partington is actively involved in education, organising the Royal College of Surgeons hip and knee replacement courses, and he has taught both nationally and internationally on joint replacement. He is a former Training Programme Director and SAC Member in the Northern Deanery. He is also an examiner for the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons on trauma and orthopaedics.
He is also a member of the British Hip Society and has been awarded an NHS National Clinical Excellence award for his work in both orthopaedic surgery and education and training. His Recent research interests include hip replacement surgery, techniques in revision hip surgery and results of hip arthroscopy.
